Life
Mmm, I love this quote from actor Alan Alda who said, "I think I come to some odd conclusions that sort of bring me back to where I was in the beginning," he says. He believes there's more to that existential interpretation: "I think that what they were constantly saying was that life is meaningless, except for the meaning you bring to it by the choices you make and the things you do."

Amen to that. I'll try my best.

Weekend Recap
First of all, let me thank everyone who sent me their good wishes on our engagement! We have a ton of things to work on before even considering a date, so don't hold your breath for a while. I do consider myself very lucky to have found a lovely woman who is so awesome and that really fits me!

Summer Rain
Boy, we had a very unusual, winter-like storm this weekend, dumping lots of much needed rain to the LA area. We have been in the middle of a severe drought and we almost never get rain in September, so this was quite a surprise.

Eating and Charity
On Saturday morning we went out for breakfast at Mimi's Cafe. Hadn't been there for a while for breakfast and I forgot how good it is there. Then we went shopping at Costco, where I was only going to buy a couple of food items and ended up spending $140! Yikes. In the afternoon I got rid of 7 bags of old clothes at the Salvation Army. That's only the tip of the iceberg, believe me. Later on we met up with Mr. & Mrs. Mouji in Redondo Beach for the Lobster Festival. The crowd was very light this year, probably scared off by the heavy rains we had last night. But, except for some crisp air, it was a beautiful day to be down at the beach, gorging on lobsters. Check out our photos HERE. While the lobster dinner was good, it wasn't really filling enough (didn't want to splurge on the large one of 40 bucks), so afterwards we went up the hill to Palos Verdes and had a little snack at Pho Hana and then over to A's favorite, Pinkberry to finish off a day of seemingly non-stop eating!

Nail Biter
Today's basketball game was the most exciting game our team has ever been in! During the first half, it was a close game and we were tied at halftime. But then in the second half we started falling behind and found ourselves down by 7 with just a few minutes to go. But the boys stepped up the defense and were able to tie up the score when the other team got into foul trouble. The last couple of minutes were nail biters, as we could have won on freethrows, and the families were screaming and yelling at the exciting game. We tied up the score on a freethrow and the game went into overtime. It was close for a while, but we were able to take the lead and hold on to win, 32-28, for our first win of the season! Whew, that was such an exciting game, and was tough on this old guy's nerves!

Weekend Update
This was unintentionally my rest "catch-up" weekend, as we didn't do very much, except for our opening game of the basketball season. Yesterday we just did a few errands around the house (even though the weather was gorgeous both days) and around town. Early this morning, Matthew's basketball team played their first game in about 3 months, now with three new players. My coaching skills were put to the test and unfortunately we lost 32-27, but it was a close game throughout with the lead changing several times. We just got outplayed through the stretch. But I was very proud of the way they played since it's been so long since our last game. After the game we did a couple of quick shopping trips to Target and Osh then came home for some leftover yakisoba that I made for dinner last night. I was pretty tired from the early wake-up and staying up late filing papers and preparing for our first basketball game/team/family meeting so I wanted to take a nap. Didn't wake up until 4:45! I guess my body really needed it.

Hawaii 2007 - Day 1
As promised, here is the first part of our short vacation trip to Hawaii with more to come very soon!

Stresssss
Aiyah, what a stressful morning! I got up around 6:00 AM, drove to downtown LA through the heavy traffic, had to find a place to park (for $17), forgot that I had my Leatherman tool key chain going through security (had to leave it at security but got it back on my way out) and got to the courtroom right at 8:30 (the scheduled time) to meet the lawyer. Of course, my petition (to set up a special bank account so that Matthew could receive my late aunt's life insurance disbursement) was one of the last ones on the calendar and after waiting through all of the other petitioners, finally got to see the judge. And of course, we're not done yet! The lawyer had to answer a few questions, etc., but now he has to file it through another department for something because of the money involved and him being a minor, which may take another week, and then there will be a follow-up after we get the court order to prove that the money has been deposited correctly (meaning, someone will have to go to court again). Sheesh, what a bunch of red tape! Finally got into work around 10:45 this morning. So, at lunch I went out for some comfort food... An In-N-Out Double-Double with fries! Mmmm...

And... We're back!
Give me a little while to recoup from our vacation last week and I'll have the photos and stories posted. While Matthew was at his grandparents house for the week with his cousins, we decided to get away to the islands for a few days and we had a great time there, sightseeing, snorkeling, eating, shopping, visiting friends, eating, shopping, etc. Then after we came back, we went to Cirque du Soleil, the Getty Villa, and a bunch of other things over the long weekend. Oh, and there is some "very" interesting news to share too! BBL.
